7-Day Samburu, Maasai Mara, Lake Nakuru, Hell’s Gate

You will be picked up from the airport with a briefing, thereafter you will be driven north past the equator to the northern frontier district. Continue to the semi-arid Samburu National reserve and check in to your campsite. There will be time to settle in before your safari adventure. Samburu is also known for some rather unique wildlife not usually seen elsewhere. A visit to the reserve will bring you in sight of such memorable species as Grevy’s Zebra, the reticulated giraffe and the Beisa onyx. And this is one of the few parks where you have a good chance of spotting African wild dogs. On game drives over the savannah, through acacia forest and riverine vegetation there will be numerous opportunities to view kingfishers, marabous, vultures, guinea fowl, Somali ostrich, egret, falcon and eagle. After early breakfast depart for a morning game drive in the reserve, en-route to the gate. Drive a southerly direction to the equator for a brief stop. Here, the locals do a water demonstration to qualify the position of the equator and for a small tip you could be awarded an 'equator Certificate. After the brief stop, Drive to the Thompsons falls for a photo-stop then down into the great rift valley. As you ascend the eastern wall of the rift Valley, lush coffee and tea plantations reveal themselves and your driver-guides will give you a brief talk about coffee farming in Kenya. 15.30pm: After checking in at your lodge, lunch Enroute 7.30pm: Dinner in the Hotel. Check out thereafter and drive via Narok town to Maasai Mara National Reserve, the land of the Maasai tribe. After breakfast, head south, passing through Naivasha town and drive around the southern end of the lake, past the flower farms to the entrance of Hell’s Gate National Park. Soon after you enter the park the impressive landscape unfolds before you a semi-arid world with sheer rugged cliffs, open plains, and deep concealed gorges. An afternoon boat ride at extra cost among colonies of hippos will be ideal view over the Lake Naivasha. There are many activities you can do in Hell’s Gate including, walking, cycling, rock climbing, bird watching, and trekking through the gorge amongst the geysers, the choice is yours. Enjoy a picnic lunch, then mid-afternoon, and depart for your accommodation on Lake Naivasha for a well-earned hot shower and a cold drink. Accommodation Naivasha Kongoni Lodge.
